Jimmy Burnsed may be recently retired but the effects of his efforts are still multiplying. Jimmy has been a steadfast supporter and advocate of the United Way of the Coastal Empire Bryan County office. He first became committed to the United Way over 50 years ago when it was still known as “Community Chest.”
While serving 12 years as Chairman of the Bryan County Board of Commissioners, he heard the voices of the Bryan County people and became their voice to the greater area to address the ongoing problems. He dealt with the county’s population growing almost 60%, and saw the United Way as their helpline.
His unwavering loyalty to the United Way and his community presence is because he believes in the power of good work. He has been the keynote speaker at the Bryan County Campaign Kickoff, provided complimentary space for our employees, and made the important connections to build new donor relationships.
Jimmy has just not given time, efforts, and money of his own but supported those who cannot. Not your typical politician, Jimmy Burnsed is a distinguished community leader who truly leads by example.
What speaks most to his passion for advocating on behalf of others is his spirituality. Jimmy says he often reflects on the Proverbs 21:13 quote, “He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.” His altruistic outlook has kept him living a full life despite personal challenges like being diagnosed with prostate cancer, and still looking towards the future.
