What’s it all about?
United Way of the Coastal Empire (UWCE) realizes that students bring valuable skills to contribute to our work in the community. At the same time, UWCE can offer an amazing learning environment for many students who are looking for experience working in a non-profit, fast-paced organization. We are consistently looking towards improving practices and processes, especially related to diversity and inclusion, while making a collective impact by engaging community partners, businesses, and individuals in our work to improve our coastal empire communities.
HOW TO APPLY
Applicants should submit their resume and tailored cover letter(s) in PDF format stating their interest in one or two departments.
Cover letters should include the following:
- The department(s) for which the applicant is applying. Applicants are able to apply for up to two departments of their choice.
- Statement of interest in United Way of the Coastal Empire and overview of career plan and goals.
- The educational institution and program attending and specified term for which the applicant is applying (Spring, Summer and/or Fall) along with internship program start and end dates and hour requirements.
United Way of the Coastal Empire currently offers internships in the following departments:
Assist with calls from community members, connecting them to community resources to meet their individual needs. Maintain accurate data regarding calls and assistance provided. Assist clients in completing application process for financial assistance. Attend community events to increase awareness of 211 and other UWCE services.
Requirements: Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage diverse populations, and a strong ability to focus in a fast-paced environment. Fluent in English (additional language is a plus) and interested in developing skills necessary to work in a professional social services environment.
Located in Bryan, Effingham, or Liberty Counties
Assist county directors in all aspects of supporting the county office including service delivery, resource development, marketing, and events. Assist office staff with greeting the public and connecting people to needed community resources. Assist clients in completing application process for financial assistance. Participate in UWCE sponsored and community events. Participate in community meetings and connect with potential donors.
Requirements: Have a strong ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Exceptional written and verbal skills, be organized and ability to work in diverse environments with flexibility. Fluent in English (additional language is a plus) and interested in developing both interpersonal and community collaboration skills necessary to work in a community-based setting.
Assist Volunteer Director and department to set up, organize and oversee volunteer experiences for individuals and corporations. Assist with recruiting and training of community volunteers.
Requirements: Have physical ability to help with physical volunteer projects, ability to work with diverse populations, ability to pay close attention to detail, and a strong ability to focus and work independently. Fluent in English (additional language is a plus) and interested in developing skills necessary to work in a professional social services environment.
Assist in all aspects of the year-round fundraising efforts including presentations and directly contacting donors. Assist with data collection and report writing related to donations and donor information.
Requirements: Have public speaking experience, exceptional writing and communication skills, a strong ability to focus and work independently, and an interest in learning about fund development or fundraising. Fluent in English (additional language is a plus) and interested in developing interpersonal skills necessary to work in a professional environment.
