Chatham County Emergency Rental Assistance – United Way of the Coastal Empire

United Way of the Coastal Empire (UWCE) is currently not accepting
new applications for Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA).

UWCE is continuing to process prescreened applications received on or by August 15, 2021. It is estimated that these applications will exhaust our remaining ERA direct allocation from the Chatham County Board of Commissioners of 3 million dollars. Chatham County and City of Savannah residents in need of emergency rental assistance and/or utility assistance through the ERA project should call the Economic Opportunity Authority at 912.238.2960. What is it

The Chatham County Emergency Rental Assistance Program at United Way is here to assist ALL residents of Chatham County in maintaining stable, safe housing.

How it helps you

The fund helps you pay up to three months of past-due balances for rent or utility bills, obtained from March of 2020 to current. The loss of income must be directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Requirements to Qualify

Proof of residency in Chatham County for one or more years
Verification of household income
Self-certification of primary applicant or other member in household that he/she has experienced a reduction in household income, incurred a significant cost, or experienced other financial hardship due directly, or indirectly to the novel Coronavirus (COVID 19).
(completion of the ERA application is “self-certification”)
Verification of past due RENT and/or utilities
(utilities such as gas, water, electric, sanitation)
Documentation of other public assistance provided to the household
(if received between March 1, 2020 and current request date)
